A Project for Veteran Wellness
The Veterans Decompression Project brings my veteran experience, diving background, and academic interests into a plan for a future undersea wellness pilot.
The Veterans Decompression Project grew from a question I keep returning to: how might the underwater environment support rest, peer connection, and a sense of purpose for disabled veterans? I have been developing a plan for a structured, science-informed pilot hosted through MarineLab and Jules’ Undersea Lab in Key Largo.
The idea brings together parts of my life that have shaped one another: military service, diving, emergency-response training, and study in marine science and emergency management. The project is being designed with clear safety roles, participant dignity, privacy, and honest limits in mind.
The first pilot is tentatively scheduled for Veterans Day 2027, pending partner, site, participant, and safety planning. This is a project in development, not a medical treatment or a completed program. Its purpose is to explore a carefully supported wellness experience, learn from participants, and determine what responsible next steps might look like. I hope it can become a meaningful way to connect veterans with one another and with the marine environment.
