Why I Keep Diving

Since 2010, diving has given me a reason to keep learning and looking closer.

I started diving in 2010, and what keeps me coming back is the feeling that there is always more to notice. The same water can feel entirely different when I slow down, pay attention, and look beyond the first impression.

While on R&R from Afghanistan, I decided to use scuba diving as a way to decompress. It gave me a reason to slow down and focus on something beyond the demands of deployment.

That personal connection is part of what led me to develop the Veterans Decompression Project: a planned, science-informed undersea wellness experience for disabled veterans. It is a project in development, not a medical treatment.

Diving has become part of how I learn, travel, photograph, and connect with people. Sometimes the subject is a diver framed by light; sometimes it is a small detail on the reef. I value both kinds of discovery.
