Gas planning / Calculator 05

Surface Air Consumption Calculator

Turn a recorded pressure drop into a surface air consumption (SAC) rate and a cylinder-independent respiratory minute volume (RMV).

01 / The calculation

How it works

SAC = pressure used ÷ time ÷ ambient pressure. RMV = SAC × cylinder gas capacity per unit of pressure. Ambient pressure uses depth ÷ 33 + 1 in feet, or depth ÷ 10 + 1 in meters.

Keep in mind

Use a stable-depth segment and the correct cylinder rating. SAC in psi/min or bar/min changes with cylinder size; RMV describes gas volume. Cold, workload and stress can raise consumption substantially.
